I recently did a Federal Tech Talk interview with John Gilroy on Federal News Radio talking about DevOps, a topic I get more and more excited about every day. During the discussion with John, I mentioned a lot of resources that might be helpful for people to learn more about DevOps and how to get started with it.
- The Phoenix Project: A Novel about IT, DevOps, and Helping Your Business Win. I can’t recommend this book highly enough. If you don’t look at any other resources on this list, at least look at this one. I’ve read it twice and I never read books twice.
- Mark Schwartz’s “How DevOps Can Fix Federal Government” talk at the 2014 DevOps Enterprise Summit. Mark Schwartz is the CIO at the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service and is doing some amazing things with Agile and DevOps to improve the way the Federal Government does IT. All of the talks from DOES 2014 were great, but this one was unique in that it showed even the Federal Government can go through a DevOps transformation.
- Damon Edwards’ “Leading the Horses to Drink” talk from the Velocity 2013 conference. This talk provides a fantastic recipe for organizations to start their journey toward a DevOps transformation. Hint: don’t use the term “DevOps”. Thanks to Mike McGarr for sharing this video with me.
- 2014 State of DevOps report. This report by Nicole Forsgren Velasquez, Gene Kim, Puppet Labs, and Jez Humble provides quantitative evidence for why you should start a DevOps transformation within your organization. No more excuses.
- DevOps Days. This great two-day event is coming to DC in 2015. Stay tuned for exact dates and location.
- The local DevOps meetups are a great way to get plugged into the DevOps community.
